I just recently heard about the C3 Berserker, it looks like a good yoyo, so I decided to buy one. I went to purchase one and noticed the $180 price tag.
I'm not paying $360 to play a yoyo, that is completely stupid.

It's the combination of two aluminium types that make it so expensive, the aluminium 7000 used for the rings is pretty expensive. C3 has always been one of the fairest companies concerning their prices, and I do think the Berserker is worth its price.

Then don't. There are plenty of fantastic lower priced yoyos available which have not changed in price. It's great to have so many options available

Its seems that a lot of new yo-yos coming out are $130+. I remember last year most yo-yos were under $100, now most are close to $200. I was looking forward to the Berserker, until I saw the price.
But as Ben said, there are many great sub $100 yo-yos. You have more choices than ever before.

I just recently heard about the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, it looks like a good car, so I decided to buy one. I went to purchase one and noticed the $50,000 price tag.
I'm not paying $50,000 to drive a car, that is completely stupid.

That's why I carve all my yoyos out of surplus driftwood and make my bearings out of stone. Saves a ton of cash. Have you ever used a wool string? I love mine, and it helps keep my sheeps' wool short. You guys should do it too.
All in all, it's only worth what you value it at. If it costs more than its worth to you don't buy. I think most out there are worth it, but for me several are a waste of money. That's my opinion and just that

Please Steve...all you're buying is a brand and heated leather seats. As far as the berserker goes all you're buying is fancy weight rings on cheap 6061 aluminum. But then again I haven't played the berserker...I'm just saying I agree it appears to be overpriced...
Coming from C3 though it's bound to be a great yoyo....I'll stick with my middle class yoyo's that do the same thing. And my middle class Highlander (car) that does the same thing.

How is the 7000 aluminum attached? I didn't realize it was a bi-metal.

I can easily afford the Berserker, I'm just finding as I'm looking at all the new yoyos that have released recently, the prices keep climbing higher and higher. It's not a matter of "I can't afford the yoyo," it's a matter of "this yoyo is 180 ------- dollars why are they so expensive now." I rarely buy yoyos, but I have nothing I want to trade right now, the Berserker is one of the only yoyos I'm interested in but that price tag is ridiculous, I just can't think of why the prices for yoyos keep climbing higher and higher.

Hasnt YYR charged near 200$ for a few years now ? I think some of the other manufacturers have simply decided they can have a 'premium' throw as well, a'la the YYR and charge near 200.00. Your just seeing a few manufacturers responding to the current market, obviously people are quite willing to pay 200.00 for a good yoyo so that means there is a market, the yoyo makers are just meeting it. While it might not seem it, that is actually a good thing. At the same time, as has been stated, they have also been meeting the demands of the players who like to spend 50-100. Id hazard a guess, and judging by Bens comment, there are more yoyos available in the sub 50-100 dollar range than there has been in....well, probably ever. From our brothers overseas cranking out an affordable metal sub 50 metal, to our own 'boutiquers' cranking out home made yoyo's of every variety. I am amazed at the number of small start ups, given the state of the eco, but people are apparently inspired to create unique yoyos. And the quality is first rate, pretty well across the board. I guess its all in how you look at it.

there's stuff you (me, anybody) can afford, then there's stuff you (me, anybody) can't
welcome to life.
as said above, it's not like you couldn't find a perfectly fine throw for about $30 a pop, or even less. you could even make one yourself if you really wanted to.
I mean, Steve made a valid point.
I know I really want a stradivari, I also know I can't afford one, so I just move on with my life. it's not like it's anything of any importance anyway. these are just toys. You say you won't pay $360 but people pay $300/$400/$600 everyday on TV, consoles etc... that are not anymore useful than a yoyo. For $360 you don't even have a set of coilovers for a car (or not really good ones), for $360 you can barely pay the rent of a small apartment, for $360, people smoke cigarettes for a month.
there are some things we can, and some things we can't or won't afford.

that was so funny. i agree with you my du. they are really expensive but like ben said there are amazing playing plastics out right now. sadly a lot of the new plastics play a lot better than my old metals yo-yos. but in the end its like what they always say "A good carpenter never blames his tools".

I agree. Prices these days for yoyos are insane.
I haven't bought a new yoyo in literally months because Im done paying that much for them. I remember when I first started and say the Superstar for $120 and was in awe of its beauty and play. Now being in the community for several years now I have owned several Superstars. Great yoyos. Worth the price I guess you could say. But I've also played a Canvas, Chief, Berserker, and none of these yoyos even come CLOSE to their price tag in play. Its absolutely absurd and its just the companies being greedy and trying to take advantage of people as yoyochucker said.

Ha, funny, two YYF guys come in to agree with the op. Like Steve said, you get what you paid for, but I'd rather save my money to get a Mercedes Benz e class than buy a 180 dollar YoYo. But, as we all know, all the boutique YoYo makers out of Asia usually have insane $200+ price tags on them (although most of the rest of c3's yoyos are moderately priced). Im happy with a SuperStar, a Dang, a Chief and a Sas for the next two years. I swear these kinds of threads are just traps to get pwned by the YYFadministration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dddAi8FF3F4 (External Embedding Disabled)

I've got to agree. If there are people willing to pay the price, there are going to be companies willing to charge it. However, as Ben has previously stated, there are many great throws at lower price points for the consumer (I would add that there are probably comparable performing yo-yos already on the market that are a lot less expensive). But we are all guilty in some way of falling for the hype for many of these higher priced throws. We want the latest, most sought after colourways and shapes. At times, we just want to have something to show off at the next club meet. We read the reviews and think how much better this yo-yo is going to out-perform the yo-yo we are currently using and, when we get said yo-yo, we sometimes try to convince ourselves that our new throw is so much better (until the next one comes along). In any case, there is a yo-yo for everyone out there at very reasonable price points. In the end, most people will be amazed at what you can do with the yo-yo more than what the yo-yo looks like. It's not the shoes (sorry Mars Blackmon) tR.

But, as we all know, all the boutique YoYo makers out of Asia usually have insane $200+ price tags on them (although most of the rest of c3's yoyos are moderately priced). It's only the Japanese manufacturers that have really steep prices. C3 is Hong Kong based, same as God-Tricks. Not sure if they manufacture in HK or the mainland. God-Tricks price their yo-yos cheaper than most US brands, though basically anyone who's played them will tell you they're of comparable quality. C3 have yo-yos at a range of different prices. The Halo is great value but the Berserker seems way overpriced. I guess it could be possible that adding the weight rings led to lots of B-grade or rejected yo-yos upping the price price of the A-grade ones. Or it could just be that C3 thought it was worth $180. In any case I don't see why it's an issue. If the price is right people will buy it. If not, the market will send a clear message to C3 that $180 is too much. One yo-yo (or even a few if you include other recently arguably overpriced releases) is hardly representative of the whole market.
