Silicone stuck in axle. Hard time taking it out. Is that even a problem?
« on: January 25, 2012, 11:30:40 PM »

I don't want to make a new thread for this so I'm using this one that I have and just changed things up.
This time I'm talking about my Yuuksta, one of the fewest of my yoyos that I actually take apart regularly ever since I stripped the CBC pad in one half and put gasket maker silicone on it. Well, the silicone is still far from curing but I already cleaned out the gunk during the process. My bearing seat was filled with silicone but I got it out easily.

The problem though is in the axle itself. Spinning the around with a paper towel does the job but it's not enough.

Should I be worried or just leave it alone? I couldn't care less about the vibe BS and whatnot, but will that small gunk of silicone affect my yoyo in the long run?

Thanks thanks.

After over 4 months of not opening my yoyo apart ever since I got it, I had to open my Protostar for the first time to do some bearing maintenance.
I try to be extremely careful about opening any of my yoyos [Not just my PStar] because I don't want anything to mess it up [not that I care about vibe at all] and I just want to keep the yoyos at its greatest condition and play like it's new.

And I think it's because it rained a few days ago and my backpack where I put my Protostar had a small hole in it, the yoyo had been spinning for a shorter time and the bearing isn't moving that smooth anymore. But yeah, that's why I did my maintenance and put a couple drops of lube. Hopefully it'll be fine from there.

Now that I've opened my Protostar apart, should I be worried about anything else?

I think I need to stop reading too much forum threads and start yoyoing for once.

The only thing you need to be concerned about is stripping the threads of the axle or yoyo by over-tightening, and that ones easy to avoid...  once the yoyo feels snug, stop twisting and you're good to go.

Yeah, that's my main concern about taking my throws apart: stripping the axle. I don't have the money and time to send it to a rethreader
But seems like I don't have to worry much. I'm very careful with my yoyos [except my Protostar, that's my daily throw and it takes its share of beating] that I want to avoid those kinds of things.

Thanks! :]

Soak it in bearing cleaner overnight… should help dissolve/remove it
