I just took delivery on Saturday. I provided the wood to Alan Grey and he worked his magic! The wood is Lignum Vitae which is ten times harder than Oak. The yoyo is 69 grams, exeptionally smooth with an amazing spin time. In addition he has set it up to be unresponsive. It's great and I love it! Great job Alan!

omg. Nice nice nice~! Love the shim idea - like on the jamboo. But the Axle being the size of the inner diameter of the bearing is so boss! I feel it makes throws sooooooooo stable

Shouldn't you put some brass inserts in that? The wood would strip awfully quick.

Lignum Vitae is very durable wood. It is used to make bearings aboard ships. No doubt it would strip if you were careless but just by paying attention when screwing it together it should last a very long time.

Yeah, but threading the axle into wood is like just tapping plastic, didn't work too well with the Gung Fu and Silk.

Take Note of the Pitch and distances between the threads if This axle tho. They are most likely more coarse to prevent stripping.

I've got a Gung Fu that has never been stripped, but you know what? I didn't post this to start an argument so

It grinds suprisingly good! If I was going to be grinding alot during a particular session I think I'd give it a quick sand with some 1500 grit sand paper. I do this with my pool cues and it cleans off any oils from your hands and leaves a slippery surface while keeping wood removal to a negligible level.

Glad to see it arrived safely. I was happy with how it turned out. Making a smooth playing wood yoyo is very difficult. Lignum Vitae is amazing wood. You can't put any finish on it since the wood is so oily. It holds threads very well. I am actually using a fine / 28 thread tap rather than 20 like the Silk has. It gives me almost 2 extra inches of thread contact. It has nearly 7 inches of threads contacting the wood on each half. Much less load per inch of thread. I have been making yo-yos like this for about 8 years and never had the wood strip. It works really well. The threaded brass spacers keep the bearing centered on the axle during installation and provide the bearing seats rather than relying on wood to support the bearing. The fine thread axle seems to be just slightly larger than a course thread axle keeping it better centered on the bearing. Since the wood is threaded, I am able to take it off and on the lathe as many times as I need to get the weight as equal as possible between the two halves.
