Hi have only been yoyoing since the weekend mainly been working on my throws was having trouble catching the returning yoyo at first this may be because my yoyo has a diamitor of 62mm which seems big looking at some other yoyos.
Anyway I've been trying to do trapeze but keep missing the string, is it just a case of practice practice practice and in the end I'll get there or am I doing something wrong?

Practice, practice, practice. It's all about muscle memory. Before ya know it you'll be landing a trapeze. Double or nothing and even spirit bomb with a narrow gapped looping yoyo. Hang in there. If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.

alright, I'd put my money on the fact that you're doing that rookie mistake of moving your non throw hand pointer into the string, bare with me, I'll try and explain - make sure your throw is straight and parallel to your body (no cheap fake throw here, throw a breakaway/sleeper) - place your non throw hand index finger so it'll be between 5 and 10cm from the yoyo when the string touches it - DO NOT move your non throw hand anymore, AT ALL - gently swing the yoyo left and right until the yoyo goes around your finger and lands on the string you can also practice with inanimate objects, like someone holding a cane or even someone else's finger, I do it with my son all the time, he puts his finger out and doesn't move it anymore, then I throw, it goes around his finger and lands on the string. most newbies try to "move" their NTH pointer into the string and this is most likely the reason why you miss.

To reiterate a point, when the yoyo lands on the trapeze, it should be close to your non-throw hand. It should NOT land on the middle of the string. The closer it gets to the non-throw hand, the easier it will be to land.

Tied up and ready to yo!

It might also help practising standing in front of something, like a bed, wall or sofa. This will help prevent you throwing "out there".

Keep trying and like everyone says, the closer to your non throw hand finger the better.
If it was me i'd really look into getting something more modern and butterfly shaped

I think you will end up a better player by using difficult equipment. Practice!

To get the trapeze down, I jus kept swinging the yoyo when it was dead, and once I hit the string enough times I moved on to when it was spinning.

I'm so glad it helped!
I think I'm not that bad at analyzing stuff that I do and breaking it down, training beginners also helps a lot to understand the "mechanics" behind each move. and Each time I've seen a beginner who kept missing the string on the trapeze, I noticed that he/she was trying to move the NTH pointer into the string which caused the string to move out of the way and the yoyo to miss it, kinda like for a lindy loop (or something like that, just turning the yoyo around the NTH pointer)
