So which do you prefer?
I love the new string feel, it makes me feel like I am playing a brand new yoyo. I think the reason I love new string so much is because when I was young I would get a yoyo and play it until the string was dead. I mean nasty, dirty, looks like I played jump rope with it, no tension, DEAD. Then I would either get a new yoyo and play that one or take the string from the new one to put on my old yoyo. So basically the only time I would get to play a new string was when I had a new yoyo. I was like 8-9 years old at the time and didn't know you can buy extra strings. I never saw them in the stores and this was before the internet.
So how do you like your string? New, broken-in, do you wash them? or just doesn't matter and only change your string when they break?

Depends on the string. I like the feel of regular poly and kitty string new, and yysl type 2 broken in.

I change my string when i get a knot. Always happens before it breaks, and strings are cheap anyway.

Now the people who like broken-in string, what kind are you using? just plain poly or some hand made string?
I do like some hand made string broken-in, but mostly because they are to rough when new. But plain poly I like new.
fzzyrn how many strings to you go through? I get knots all the time, but I usually just pick them out. I would have to change my string ever 10 mins if I did that.

I change highlights when they start to feel really smooth depending on the yoyo. I keep a ton around so when they lose the ability to hold tension or if I get a knot before I melt the string into that smooth state I will change it without much care.
I have used chaos string on my daily carry Yuuksta and over the past two years I have only gone through 3 or 4 of them since they still keep reasonably neutral tension after reaching that smooth state and don't become completely useless in the humid conditions where I live.

Thats like changing your string every 2-3 days. Although I like new strings. I remember reading about Markmont saying he only played like 14 strings in year.

I don't know anyone who really prefers old cotton, which is what I play with wood. I play a string for around an hour before I change lately. I don't really care, but performance drops precipitously when string frays around the axle. With cones to balls string, I was going a few days between changes, consistently.

You this read wrong.
|
I play them until they start to get really frayed, or i see them starting to break. I like the feel of really worn string, and i dont see a big difference in play.

This is pretty much where I'm at. Those axle frays will kill your knuckles, fast. All in all, regardless of the string type, I likes 'em fresh and bouncy.

I play my strings till they're way too frayed.
I should change strings more often but don't like the hassle of shortening new strings. I guess I'd rather play with an old frayed string than one that's too long.

Have you ever played with a wet highlight? It's interesting, whips fast because of added water weight, and ruins bearings.

I hate when string gets "fuzzy" so no matter what the string I play it until it gets really fuzzy then I change it.
