Hot weather - Rope burn and hard to play with yoyo?
« on: January 11, 2012, 04:03:12 AM »

Hey everyone, I got my velocity while on holidays and I've since headed home to QLD Australia. It has been extremely hot and humid here, around 35-40*C and I can't play with my yoyo properly, the string keeps gripping to my skin. I've tried to do "Stop and Go" and ended up with rope burns on my non throwing hand index finger twice and I've only tried the trick twice since being back.

Anyone know if humidity can make it harder to play with a yoyo, if so is there anything that can be done about it?

Thanks in advance!

Gloves are probably your best bet, unless you want to just yoyo inside.

I'm guessing the skin on your hands / fingers have more moisture (sweat) due to the heat. This could certainly cause extra friction and "rope burn".

As mentioned, gloves are probably your best bet, or maybe try playing near a fan which should help evaporate the moisture from your hands.

humidity definetly can effect how string plays.  there are certain types of string that do better in humidity.  i hve found that Yoyostringlab string and snacktime string do well in humidity, especially the yoyostringlab

Gloves of course are your best option, but for me they tended to wear out too fast for the price.  band-aids around the rope burn spots work pretty good and they're cheap.   Also, some types of string work better in high humidity than others.

What I've realised here in Switzerland, A completely different matter during the winter, But during the Summer I have also experiencedrope burn because of the humidity of my hands. What I used to do was wash my hand before yoyoing, it made my skin drier. And made doing tricks a lot easier.

Gloves and poly/nylon strings (I find that standard polys like kittys or highlights tend to mess up the response when wet) try Gstring's NOLY or Graou strings, they do great in humidity

Gloves. Baby powder will also help.
