YoYo Discussion forum - YOYO AXLE RUINED!

Please help! I left my cousin to play with my DMII while I went upstairs(he yoyos too), but when I came downstairs again, he says that the yoyo grinded through the string but the DMII just fell to the floor (didn't hit anything but the rug). When i looked at the DMII I saw that the axle wasn't on properly and that there was a silver ring near the bottom of the axle, I took that off (might have been a mistake but I thought that was what it was stopping it from screwing in properly) and I tried to screw it in again but it still didn't screw up properly, and now, it doesn't screw up at all! Any ideas as to how I could fix it, I am going to buy a new yoyo but I want to fix my DMII. Thanks!
