Noisy Bearings?
« on: December 19, 2011, 11:06:32 PM »

Hey Guys.

I've been around the community and yoyoing scene for atleast 4 years now, but I never really gave much thought to noisy bearings. What makes them noisy? Any quick fixes?

I know lube can be a big factor though it never seems to help without making my yoyo responsive as an imperial for the following week of play, then I get about a half hour of unresponsive quiet play before it gets unebearably noisy again. I've cleaned them and no difference. Some of these bearings play incredible, but the noise is stopping me from using them.

Any tips or reasoning for this?

i use a sewing machine lube (ill check the name brand later) it is super thin (almost like water) and it lasts a LONG time without adding very much response. From my exploits with it i add about 2-5 drops and it becomes lightly responsive for about a half hour or so then its unresponsive and quiet. mine usually stay quiet for a few weeks at a time. the best part, you can get a huge bottle for less than 10$.

Buy OneDrop ten ball bearings. That's honestly the best solution. Ten ball bearings are extremely quiet and play great. Only problem is that once you start using ten ball bearings, you don't want to use anything else, hahah.

What kind of lube are you using? My experience is that YYJ thin is generally better at dampening noise than V4M, and if you use it in moderation (i.e. a droplet at the end of a needle) it won't have much of an effect on responsiveness.

bearing noise can be great, but I run ten balls.. And ten balls get loud.. So I use a little v4m, it'll be responsive for 2 minutes before it breaks in. The reasoning is simple. Its metal balls with the speed of a yoyo spinning them really fast. And metal against metal is loud

Not really a necro but this post is almost a month old. Your reply didn't really add anything to the conversation, so please try to refrain in the future.  Afro
