Buy one. A Dremel-type rotary tool is only like $10 at Harbor Freight. You could theoretically find some high place to hang the string from and hang a weight off it and twist it like that, but you'd have to experiment to get it to work right.

its possible to make string without an auto-spin tool get a pencil or a pen and hook the string onto the pen or pencil keep spinning the pen counter-clockwise until desired tension
This method works but instead of about 5 minutes per string, you'll spend around 20 minutes per string

So basically you could make a 4 string jig? I have an old RC18 clone I could use to make one, with a fully independent suspension too

Well I'm actually starting to like the idea whether it was a joke or not. What kind of thread is used to make yoyo string?

I used a mini 4WD tamiya car to twist the string, you can tie the string through one of the holes and then twist.

I think I'll try removing my wheels and extra long drive pins and wrap the string around that but I still have some research to do. Who knows, maybe soon ill be producing low quality string at high cost

They sell bulk Kevlar thread (along with a bunch of other stuff), at a not-too-bad price. $15 for a 1/2-oz. spool of 21 tex thread, 780 yards. I've been wanting to get some and blend it with their Nomex thread to make a fireproof yoyo string (soft enough to be usable), stick some fuel-soaked Kevlar rope as a wick in a raw yoyo's IRG and light that sucker on FIRE!!! They also have spun polypropylene thread for pretty cheap, $6.49 for a 4-oz. spool, so I'd like to try that and see what kind of a string it makes for such an inexpensive thread. But yeah, anything that spins fast that you can tie the string to will work as long as it can handle the tension and torsion of the string as it's being twisted.

Then I'm lucky I can get 5000 yards polyester for $1, I can make more than 100 strings from them...
