Beware of bootleg Yoyorecreation & Turning Point yoyos
« on: December 13, 2011, 12:01:59 AM »

It came to my attention today that the user ereneren546 has been selling bootleg Yoyorecreation yoyos as legitimate Yoyorecreations (http://www.yoyonation.com/talk/index.php/topic,103454.0.html). Apparently he was using the money people sent him to buy them from the bootleg site in China and having them shipped directly to the buyers. From what I’ve gathered thus far, it seems that they can be told apart because the bootlegs have no box, a bigger axle, wider pads, a different sheen to them, and are in colorways that you don’t see on the YYR website – though some of the bootlegs are in official YYR colorways. The engravings also look different. I’ve included pictures of legit models and bootlegs for reference. Just be on the lookout. Mad props to kbjork and Sunny for info on this.

Yoyos I've been told are currently being bootlegged:
Messiah ; SİLVER ,PURPLE ,BLUE, PİNK
OverDrive ; SİLVER , BLACK , BLUE , PİNK , GOLD
Leviathan II ; SİLVER , GOLD , PİNK , BLUE , RED
Sleipnir Take That ; SİLVER , RED
Shinya Kido Sleipnir ; BLUE

The site that sells them has them priced at about $70.  If you don't realize that it's a bootleg when being offered at that price, then you need to get your head examined.  It looks like he was probably flipping them and doubling his money.

It appears that he was using the money people sent him to buy them from the place they are available in China and having them sent directly.

@ superpoke. you make an excellent point im still a little fresh and dont know all the companies that well. i did a bit of research and now i understand. how do they get away with selling them considering they have the company name and stuff engraved. its like they are begging for a lawsuit.

@ J. i see. thats just bad business. i know im new so everyone may take what i say with a grain of salt but thats just wrong no matter how you slice it.

It's done in China, so the US can't lay a single finger on them.

Problem is that I just found out that the same chinese seller carries Turning Points bootleg too...I guess  that the "I have no box because my friend kept it" (or something of the sort)  line in ereneren546 BST for the supposed Shinji Leviathan is quite suspect too.

I got an overdrive. It looks identical, plays amazing, super smooth (smoother than some real YYR I've owned from new). It's easy to spot as a fake though as it's a different shade of blue to the real ones. I think the bold text is more noticeable in real ones too.

The funny things is that the graphics on the bootleg Sleipnir are "better" than the real thing... idiot2
The legit one's are off center, while the bootleg one's are centered.... shocked

Wow, the b/s/t market for these has now crashed.  Who is going to want to buy them second-hand knowing there is a great chance it could be a bootleg.  I'll never consider trading for one of these again.
