Ti ano thread (First job free!!!)
« on: December 11, 2011, 04:51:06 PM »

If any of you are willing, I would like to experiment with Ti anodizing on a yoyo. If I am successful, a free anodizing job is yours. If I mess up, I polish it off and send it back. If you are interested pm me and post here.

I can be trusted, do not worry. I just do not like the idea of spending more than the worth of metal on some scrap Ti. Ti is much easier to anodize than aluminum.

I would really suggest you find some scrap first.   Anodizing Ti is a simpler process than Al, but it is really easy to get flaws and much harder to control the color.

the chances of someone sending you there Sovereign, Ti=walker, etc. is extremely low. You have zero feedback, and your behavior in some other places has been less than trustworthy.

Im not trying to be mean, just trying to explain why you may not hear from anybody.
It would make my day for you to prove me wrong, PLEASE do.

I have already received a pm from yomagic saying that he is interested. I will do it after a few tests with scrap over the next few weeks.

I know nothing of anodizing....well not much anyway.....but to be honest the colors look pretty dull. I think it looks kind of cool, almost rustic, but ot something I would personally want on my expensive Ti.

Maybe if you polished the scratch Ti up first it would turn out more vibrant.

But there's probably something more to do with you voltage, power source, and water.

When you anodize Ti, it does not use dye, therefore it is based on the amount of voltage you have. These are low voltage colors right now, soon I will be able to do much more vibrant colors.  Afro

I have found how to make WAY more vibrant colors by giving the Ti a satin finish like a yoyo.  Smiley

You can purchase etchants that remove the preexisting oxide layer of the titanium, leading to much more vibrant colors. Using etchants is one of the only ways to anodize to some of the more difficult to reach colors, like green or orange.

I figure that I am fine if I just satin it down a bit before anodizing it.

Maybe you should post pictures of your "new & improved" setup. So far whatever "secret setup" you are utilizing isn't proving much of anything...the examples you posted above are rather dull and unappealing.

Just my 2 pieces.
