boingy boing
« on: December 09, 2011, 03:00:21 AM »

frustrated tickedoff frustrated  i have spent so long trying to learn this trick and cant figure out what im doing wrong.  i get the up and down motion that the throw hand makes, i can get the yoyo to swing back and forth properly using that motion when it isnt between the strings, and in fact an even make it work when it is between the strings if i pinch the string at the top and bottom of the "Mount."  but when i go to do it properly, the second i start bringing my throwhand down, the sting starts sliding ove my throwhand pointer finger and the yoyo drops tword my non throw hand.  what am i doing wrong?

actually you shouldn't need to aim, even with a tilted yoyo, you can make it happen with the right motion, but you do have to put energy/confidence in it. it's really a hard trick to get, keep at it, but don't grind for it. Don't expect it to come, it will, eventually. but it could take months, days, hours, weeks or years

it's just one of those tricks that you shouldn't get stuck on it, move on to other stuff and get back to it every now and then.

Exactly what hadoq said. I try to do it here n there over the past couple months and it gets progressively easier and stays between the strings longer. Still not smooth or consistently. Don't beat yourself up or put too much time and effort into it. Boingy seems like one of those tricks that just comes over time. Good Luck to ya, you'll get it when you're not really putting forth the effort.

my problem has nothing to do with aiming...  the problem is when i bring my hand down to start the trick, the the slack in the string causes the yoyo to move vertically toward my nontrowhadnd.  sort of like the begining to over under boingy boing

your problem must just be string tension, try pulling your hands apart harder as soon as you move your nonthrowhand down. There shouldn't be any said slack in the string, maybe a lighter yoyo would help you keep gravity from screwing you. Also what hadoq said, the trick comes natural once you get smoother with yoyoing as a whole, or at least it did for me.

it would be really helpful if you were to film one of your attempt, I'm having a hard time understanding where that "slack" comes from, there shouldn't be any "slack" when doing the boingeboing. I think the "pulling up" part is more important than the "pulling down"

maybe another thing, try with different yoyos, to me it came all at once when I got that C3 winning bird, one instant it lacked energy, litterally five minutes after I got the winning bird, I could do it nicely, then in the same evening, I got the over/under going too.

sometimes a different throw can "unlock" some tricks that you've been struggling on for a long time.

you've tried it from the wrist mount or sidestyle yet ? it's so much easier sideways

I guess slack was a misleading term to use.  when i bring my throwhand donw, the tension is taken off the string.  this causes the yoyo to drop from the middle of the incomplete ach5 mount down twoard my throwhand.  the released tension causes gravity to take effect.  its like in over under boingy boing when you let the yoyo drop to go under your hand.  its the same kind of motion.  i havnt tried it side style yet and i didnt know you could do it from a wrist mount.  i dont have acess to a video camera but i can try to have someone take before and after photos to try and help illistrate what i am having troubble with.  i have tried it with all my yoyos but i keep running into the same problem.

ok I think I understand what you mean with the "slack thing", this is why I believe it's important to have some "dynamism" to it, so the yoyo doesn't drop, this is not a trick that can really be practiced slowly, which is what, IMO, makes it difficult, there are others like this, specially in 5A.

the way I think it's easier side style is because you can better control where your arms are, I find it more comfortable than having to be aligned with your body as in front style, I have it down very well side style and I keep messing it up frontstyle, I've tried it once at a meeting and did 45 in a row, sidestyle, including over/under, front style I'm not sure I can even make 5 consistently, most of my friend find it easier sidestyle as well.

listen, I've just recorded a few sequences in video for you, hopefully it'll help you out.

no worries, I myself struggled with it, but as I'm explaining it a lot to the new players in my area, I think I broke some of the stuff down, I was bond to make a vid about it sooner or later.

the vid is rendering right now, expect it to be online within the next hour.
