Does this happen to anyone else
« on: December 04, 2011, 07:41:32 AM »

I have three 10 balls. Clean em and blow them with compressed air. Then i try to lube them (just enough for them to quiet down, like really small drop) but no matter what ammount of luibe the always stay semi-responsive and they are starting to hurt when they bindup. Is there a way to fix this

Happens to me too! I didnt find a way to fix it other than playing the bearing and wearing them in.

Here's a few things I would try.

1. Change the string - the string might have caught some lube from the bearing, causing it to be overly responsive.

2. Try to get the excess lube away from the bearing with paper.

3. Most importantly: use less lube. Put a drop of lube on some surface. Touch it with a pin and then touch the inside of the bearing with the pin. Repeat this a few times until you notice that the bearing spins a little less when finger spun than before adding any lube.

For example let's say your bearing spins for approximately 15 seconds when finger spun right after cleaning, before adding any lube. Now do the pin/lube procedure described above. Repeat it until the bearing spins for around 5-8 seconds. It should be unresponsive and quiet immediately without any need to break it in.

I'm not saying that this would be the only successful method out there, but I've had good results with it.

A week should be enough, when you say small drop.. straight out of the bottle or literally a pin drops worth?
(you run a drop down a pin then add it to the bearing)

i had this problem then i switched to a super thin sewing machine oil. its almost as thin as water but quiets the bearing while still remaining unresponsive. best part, huge bottle for 5$.

I've found that ten balls take an inordinately large amount of time to break in. keep at it.

It happen to me and i though I messed up my bearing but if you yoyo alot every day it will start being unresponsive.Try getting a drill then fine a pen that will fit the bearing to the point were you spin the bearing and the bearing wont fall out then get a drill put the pen in the dril chuck and spin the drill with the bearing on the other side once you get this spinning get a cup of lighter fluid and spin the bearing in the cup for a few min, then get  two drops of lube and the spin the drill this time squeeze the bearing so that only the inside if the bearing will move do this for 5 min.Your bearing should be clean and unresponsive after this.
