My Street Case
« on: December 01, 2011, 09:13:56 PM »

Hello. Just wanted to share what I call my "Street" Case. I made this because I work with National Rollout Company installing different display's in different stores. It is good pay but not steady work. My wife's workplace got word of this and knew I yo-yo'd (I performed at a couple of their kids birthday parties) so they said I could yo-yo out front to try and pick up a little extra cash. I though this was a great idea and decided to make this case to hold everything I need. It is not finished yet. I still need my speakers (christmas present from wife) and a string dispenser (i was thinking about an old dental floss container veltro'd to the lid) and I am going to color the foam. Anyway here is the case. Comments on how I can improve it would be appreciated.

P.S. The business card section is because I do shows at birthday parties etc. so I thought it would be a good idea to keep a few on hand.

P.P.S. Also this in an old Caboodle box my mother found at a yard sale for 1$.

Such a good idea! Why have I never thought of integrating a case and speakers and money tray?

Thanks. I thought it was a good idea. Just to be able to pack up and go in a few seconds.

EDIT: I'm also working on a small case made from a pencil box with the left over foam from this case. I carry a messenger bag with me everywhere and I figured it would be a good way to have something on hand if the opportunity ever arose.

Now someone can take all you have in one clean hit! This is not a joke, prepare to have things stolen by having a street performing setup like that.

it would have to be a pretty stupid criminal cause we're like 3 feet from the police department and there's always someone there. sometimes they even come watch on their break.

Fair enough. I'm just putting it out there that there are plenty of people willing to swipe street performers. They often work in pairs, as well; one grabs the tips, and the other grabs your equipment when you chase the first. Never EVER chase a person after they took your tips!

All I'm saying is this setup reduces the effort needed to take all of your money AND equipment by half.

Protect your money tray and keep it as empty as possible at all times.  I had a guy swipe my jar once while making balloon animals for kids!

If you really want to keep someone from snatching the whole case tape it onto a cinder block. I once saw a guy in Chicago who was playing his guitar with a folders coffee jug for tips on a cinder block. I asked him why and he said he had 2 bolts that ran through the bottom of the jug and into the cinder block in case someone tried to snatch it. Might be cumbersome and since your in a very safe place I doubt anything would happen but it's always an option

i would put a little sign on the money tray that says something like "tips greatly appreciated! Thanks for your support!"

When I get people watching and one passes by without tipping, I usually just say he's going to find an ATM. Be vocal to passers by, don't just rely on a sign. Be approachable and friendly.
