Stripped MG
« on: December 01, 2011, 01:31:56 PM »

SUp guys,

Got a stripped MG here, its Raw, and only one side is stripped but its pretty bad. Tried Various Loctites but all of them just came out with the axle even after leaveing for a week or so, not sure what else to try now, i've got a a lathe so i'm open to option, i'm thinking of retapping it? But i want to keep the OG bearing and pad set up..

Helps?

The MG has the regular Duncan spacers, right? You'll probably need to tap the hole for the same size axle it already uses, I believe. I think what Ricerocket does/did to retap a hole for the same size of axle is to bore the stripped hole out smooth, epoxy a tight-fitting aluminum rod into the hole, and bore/tap that to the original size.

Or you can go to a 10-32 tap. That;s what I do.

If keeping the original size threads is important and you don't want to remove the entire hub, you could always tap it up a size and install a heli-coil.

My apologies. I wasn't thinking about the spacers. Mrcnja is right. Heli coil is the best way to keep the OG axle.

Make a bigger axle hole and slip the same size axle as the old Anti-Yo's. Afro

Have you stripped or lost your axle? PM me. I have brand new replacement axles for just about any newer metal yoyo for $2.50 shipped.

This won't work. You would have to completely redo the bearing and pad set up.

As me and Lee said at the time.. Locktite wont do it, get down B&Q and get some metal glue or that epoxy resin stuff that comes in 2 tubes you have to mix

JB Weld?  That's some strong stuff.  But if that doesn't work, I would tap the hole to fit a helicoil.

You guys are overthinking this. Couldn't you just buy a $15 freehand, pop the caps, and install the new axle?

The MG uses a normal axle which screws directly onto the metal. It doesn't use the hex type axle that a freehand uses.
