how do I replace the response system in my Genesis
« on: November 17, 2011, 04:54:53 PM »

I just got a used Genesis from someone in the trade and sale forum and was surprised to have it arrive with only one silicone pad. I assume that I need both - response on only one side seems like it'd be bad. How do I go about replacing it? What do I need to buy? There seem to be various sizes and I don't want to get the wrong ones and have to wait for shipping again. Not to mention the unnecessary expense - though shipping is more than the pads themselves!

And while I'm at it, is getting some thin lube like One Drop V4M worth my while?

Have you tried playing it with just the one pad? It may play just fine.

that is a link to the page with the CBC products that yoyofactory use in most of their products. What you want is the large bearing slim pad, it looks like at the moment they have only the red color in stock. There is white, yellow and red, they call the yellow and red 'Pro' pads some feel they give a better bind. I use white often and they work great, but Im sure the red ones work fine too.
Those are just the YYF or CBC pads, there are many other pads which will fit, IIRC the dimensions are 19mm Inner-dimension 21mm Outer-dimension, if this si incorrect some please correct. So any pads that are the proper dimension will fit, with varying degrees of effectiveness. If you are just startinbg, I would stick with the CBC pads.
You can play the yoyo with one pad, as LJ mentions, its not uncommon, just makes the yoyo more unresponsive.
 Good luck.
 Peace.

Hm, and so it does! It still seems like two pads ought to offer a more even response - binding when I want and not binding when I don't want.

In the long-run, I've gotten used to using a single pad. I did replace it with a new one, though.

You could also silicone it.
