so, i have'nt ben yoyoing for a few months now, due to throwing my tops. i have been wanting to learn to throw side style. yesterday i had some time to practice it and i even came up with a little combo. i know its not the best but for my first time trying this, i think it turned out pretty good http://youtu.be/bDBJurVNojw |

Practice whipping the string without yoyoing. What I mean is just experiement with different motions and watch the string, don't even be concerned with the yoyo. Try whipping it forward, backwards, sideways. Watch the string and pay attention to what motions and techniques makes a nice open loop. That's what I did and it helped me. Good luck.
