Response problems
« on: October 28, 2011, 09:59:01 PM »

So I just picked up throwing again after about 2 years. I am throwing my 888 and have been having some response problems. I just put in new silicon pads and obviously after 2 years of not playing with it the bearing needed some lube so I threw in some thin lube. I went to go throw it and I discovered that if I even pull it up about 4" it comes back and I can recall being able to be able to yank it up and grab it from the hubstacks still spinning and not have it bind. I can't throw anything with it this sensitive. Any suggestions?

Hmm.  Sounds like the bearing needs cleaned or replaced.  If you have some, try soaking it in mineral spirits and make sure there isn't anything on or around the bearing seat.  Afro

I'm not the greatest at fixing yoyo problems so correct me if I'm way off, but you could have just put in too much lube, which can be solved by just playing with it a lot, could need to clean the bearing, or you may just need a new bearing.

#1 You just need to play with it for a while, it will become more unresponsive after a while.

#2 The other option is that you clean the bearing in mineral spirits or lighter fluid and after that add the *tiniest* drop of lube on it. Anyway the excess lube will wear out by just playing it so I'd personally go for #1.

Check that no sili went wandering off into the wrong parts.  Also, a new silicone job can be responsive if it's not absolutely flat or recessed. A little throwing or a trim can fix that.
