Good evening, First time poster here. My first Yo Yo was Coca Cola Imperial style one, a lot of years ago. Recently i decided to start playing with it again, tho i've bought myself a Free Hand Zero, for string tricks. First month was okay, till i've changed its friction stickers (old ones wore out badly). But now problem has risen - i have to make a really strong throw, or my Yo Yo will enter "zero response mode". I have no idea why this is happening. I thought of using WD40 or machine oil to make bearings grip response better, but i am not entirely sure it will would help... Any tips would be appreciated Sorry, i didn't find "Help" Category in this forum -Rai

So, I am assuming that you have just been pulling the freehand zero back to your hand instead of binding. If this is the case then the video will teach you how to bind. If the pads are worn down then they can be replaced with these pads=> http://www.yoyonation.com/product.php?productid=16201&cat=257&page=1If the bearing is making strange noises and does not spin well by itself then you can buy some yoyojam thin lube (thick lube if you want it to return easier) (Yoyonation is sold out of it right now) (Again someone else might know of some other lube that you could use from a store (I would not use WD40) If the lube does not help then the proper size for a replacement bearing is 5x10x4 mm=> http://www.yoyonation.com/product.php?productid=16799&cat=259&page=1

Just a bit of lube should give you some response. 3n1 or some sewing machine oil, or insturment valve oil, I use a lube sold in most bike shops and autoparts called tri-flow, its awesome and smells like bannana oil. WD40 is a last resort, while it will work, it isnt the best thing to use for a lot of reasons, of whcih you can investigate yourself if you like. http://www.wd40.com/faqs/ good luck and have fun.

The response doesn't grip the bearing, but rather the string. May I ask what you changed the pads to? Just more Duncan pads? If so, you probably just need to lube the bearing a bit. 3-in-1 oil, sewing-machine oil, gun oil, instrument valve oil, mineral oil, etc. will all work. As previously stated, don't use WD-40 on yoyos because one of the few surfaces it attacks and dissolves is polycarbonate plastic, which is what your FHZ is made out of.

Play a FHZ with no pads, but a bearing with a ton of oil. Now, play a FHZ with a dry bearing, but with pads. How will it play then? You will notice a difference. Response is an essential part of every yoyo, and I'm pretty sure that the pads are worn out. To the OP, is there still a rubbery like substance on the stickers? If not, you need new pads.

Sounds to me like the bearing is now broken in and has become unresponsive. If the pads look ok then you may need to lube the bearing. 3-n-1 oil is a great thick lube to make it "tug" responsive.

Don't buy friction stickers, they wear out way fast. Silicone stickers are better.

welcome in modern yoyoing the bind is the very first trick I teach to anyone who comes to me and wants to throw, it usually takes between 10 minutes and a few hours to be learned. forget about UFO, you'll be able to do much nicer tricks with an unresponsive yoyo
