Jason Lee trick from 2005 Nats....pls hlp.
« on: October 19, 2011, 01:51:44 AM »

Ok, I love the freestyle that Jason did in 2005(thanks to Josh Yee for the heads up), wish I could see it better but the video I found on you-tube is pretty far away, so you can not really see string segments too well.
There is a trick Jason does around the .45 second mark. If I had to explain it, well...I would have trouble, but it is sort of  is like bouncing the yoyo back and forth on the string while the yoyo is pivoting from a point that seems to be some sort of false knot. I have seen quite a few others do variations, but I really like the way Jason does this.
I will try to embed the Freestyle...... the trick is at the 45-46 second mark
<div><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/E9bICFHr2kQ&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0" width="425px" height="344px" wmode="transparent" quality="high" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="never" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" autoplay="false" autostart="false" /><noembed><a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/E9bICFHr2kQ&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/E9bICFHr2kQ&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0</a>

Does it have a name, or is it just flair ?
Any help is most appreciated, if you can help me figure out hoe to get into it, that would be awesome as well.
Ive been trying a few different ways but so far no luck, its stilll fun though I really am reminded of my early days of transcribing guitar parts, not that I am any great shakes as a transcriber, but I can figure the song out most times. Learning yoyo tricks from videos is sort of the same, but I mean freestyles not tutorials, no offense to tuts, but there something to be said for investigating and learning on ones own, it gives me a real sense of accomplishment figuring out a particularly tricky bit.
With all that being said...sometimes we must all ask for help, and Im stumped on this one.
So any help with the 'trick' is most appreciated.
peace.

I got it by just making a magic knot and pivoting my hand opposite of where my hand pivots. Definitely an awesome trick. I'm trying to make a decent repeater out of it. Practicing split-time tricks like hipster whips will help you get the hang of making it look good.

Hey then Fallen, anything helps. I found another version of it, perhaps it might tweak someones memory, its from 2001 so it is an old move, heres the vid from Gabe at Sector Y.... oh the trick is at the 3:14 mark...
<div><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/740L-ikOmOo&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0" width="425px" height="344px" wmode="transparent" quality="high" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="never" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" autoplay="false" autostart="false" /><noembed><a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/740L-ikOmOo&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/740L-ikOmOo&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0</a>

Not sure who the thrower is but I like the video, lots of old school style.
Anyone able to help me get into this move ?
 Thanks.

The player in that video is also Jason Lee actually, haha.
Im not quite sure how he gets into those mounts. It might not hurt to try his facebook.

I actually found a video that has a version of it at the HSYY site.

<div><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VcFl6KfTk4A&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0" width="425px" height="344px" wmode="transparent" quality="high" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="never" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" autoplay="false" autostart="false" /><noembed><a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/VcFl6KfTk4A&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/VcFl6KfTk4A&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0</a>

So now I just gotta get it worked out.
 Thanks again all.

the only thing different is 'Ping Pong' is a fake knot where Jason Lee's seems to be a real one cause at the end of it in his FS you see him put the yoyo through the loop then it becomes just a twist

The trick is A.D.D./A.D.H.D.
And there's lots of cool "magic" behind this trick...

If you look at the second video that Graiskye posted, you'll see at the 3:14 mark that the mount Jason is in before he starts the trick is a trapeze with a wrap around his wrist (like a spirit-bomb style wrist mount - but without the yo-yo going through the "hole" in the mount). Instead he reaches through the hole from above to pull the string out to get a fake knot.

Here's the tricky thing. If you just try to do the trick "ping-pong" style like in the third video with JUST a fake knot, when you spin the yo-yo around to try and create the cool "isolation" effect (from the first video at 0:45-0:47 where the yo-yo and string are wind-milling around the knot it'll just slide closed. This is because a fake-knot, by definition isn't actually going to close up tight enough to keep it from sliding.

BUT! look again at the 2nd video, once in the fake-knot, Jason slides the yo-yo into and out of a "GT" by opening the hold for the fake knot. It's this extra "knot" around the fake knot that will cause the yo-yo and string to be able to isolate around the knot in the center of the hold without sliding closed - and is also why Jason had to exit the yo-yo through the triangle at the end of the move in his 2004 FS.

Hope this helps! This trick is way rad - good to see more people doing it beyond just the "ping-pong" version - which imo is kinda lame haha.
