Best looping yoyo advice
« on: October 11, 2011, 10:13:20 PM »

Hello I am a yoyier of string tricks, with my dark magic 2. I want to experiment with looping so I want to know what the best looping yoyo is. I was thinking the loop 900, is that a good choice? Also when I het a looping yoyo what string type and material works well? Also what are the spare response systems and lube I want. Thanks guys and give me your beat opinion.

Although I'm AWFUL at 2A, I usually recommend YYJ's Unleashed for 2A.  They're nice, not extremely expensive, and perform very well.

Most 2A players use 50/50 and thick lube (YYJ makes great thick lube) for their bearings.  Good luck and have fun!

If you can find a pair and someone to mod them, OG raiders will always be the best 2A yoyos.

one of these:
Raider (modded) as used by more than 90% of 2a players, highly recommended for advanced players
Fireball (modded, change transaxle with bearing and plastic spacers) as used by Shinji Saito, basically it's Raiders with different caps/colors, cheapest yet the one of best you can get.
Raider-Ex basically Raiders with different spacer size so you don't need to perform Raiders/Fireballs mod, highly recommended.
Loop 720, great looper if you know how to thread string well on the yoyo (it uses String On String response), this is the one i currently use, I think it's discontinued.
Loop 900, great looper with a key to adjust the gap width. Be careful, I heard it eats string out of the box, but after few hours of playing you shouldn't worry too much. Just avoid using 100% cotton.
Sunset Trajectory (modded) a great looper by Yoyojam, modding required
Unleashed great looper, a bit heavier than everything above, adjustable gap, uses modified starburst as the response which doesn't eat string as much as usual starburst.
Shinwoo loop great yoyo from Korean manufacturer, uses starbust shaped rubber pad as the response (please correct me if I'm wrong) or Shinwoo loop (light version) with starburst response.

string: anything from cotton, slick, or polyester, most people will say slick (50-50) is the best for looping, you may want to try different strings and see how things work.

response system: unless you are going to use loop 720, Sunset, or Shinwoo loop, then you don't need to worry. Most loopers uses starburst as the response.

lube: use 3 in 1 oil or thick vaseline grease, put it on both side of the bearing, don't use thin lube!

One more thing, don't be discouraged by how long it takes to learn looping. Looping is hard and really need patience, but it's definitely worth it.

Thank you for the great comment ^^  and one more thing; how hard is it to mod a raider?

Hmm, I'm not sure how to describe "how hard" it is. If you can meet a high level 2A player I'm sure he/she can help you with this.
