I was just practising tricks when I got a knot so I unscrewed my yoyo to get rid of the knot and I fixed it but when I threw my yoyo and did a trick, I found that I could just tug my yoyo back up, whereas it was unresponsive before! Please tell me how to fix it and I've got a Dark Magic 2, with the unresponsive bearing supplied. Please help! Thanks!

clean your bearing with mineral spirits, lighter fluid, or nail polish remover. You most likely got something inside the bearing when you unscrewed it.

Take the yo-yo apart again. Put it back together. Don't have the string on the bearing when you screw it back together. (my son does this sometimes) See if it's still responsive. Often times it will fix itself.

I've tried cleaning the bearing with simple plain water and that did improve it, but it was still a bit responsive. Then I realised that when I take the yoyo apart, it unscrews much less smoothly, and when I flick the bearing on the axle (when I've taken it apart) it spins less smoothly. And much slower as well. Could I have damaged the axle or the seat of the bearing or something? I'm really worried because I'm only a kid and I can't afford my own yoyos. My Dark Magic was a present. By the way, could it be the rings of the response system (don't know the response system, I'm kind of new to different response systems) have anything to do with it because one of them looks slightly cleaner than the other, but that still wouldn't explain why it unscrews less smoothly... Please help! Thanks!
P.S I've taken my yoyo apart millions of times before and this never happened. Oh, and I've cleaned the seat of the bearing with damp cotton buds, with only slight improvement.

DONT EVER CLEAN YOUR BEARING WITH WATER. That will cause it to rust. Get some lighter fluid, soak it in there and spin it till it is dry. WATER+BEARING=BAD

If I'm not mistaken, yyj doesn't use stainless steel bearings in their yoyos. So cleaning it out with water would result in rust forming in the bearing... As far as I know, there's no way to fix it, so you may be looking at having to buy a new bearing.
I could be wrong, but if I'm not, it shouldn't be a big deal to get a new bearing and slap it into the yoyo... It's a lot cheaper than buying a brand new yoyo at least.

Yoyojam uses Speed Bearings in their Bi Metals, so the bearing will still work, but will just be responsive. I would buy a new bearing.

I really don't think it's the bearing though...should I clean it with nail polish remover, still? If I do what, will the bearing still work, yoyospirit?

Soak the bearing in WD-40 overnight, then clean it out with lighter fluid or mineral spirits. You can pick up these solvents at walmart.

you cleaned your bearing with water?!?!?! *facepalm* your probably gonna have to get a new bearing (size C) their only like $10 But you should get yourself some lighter fluid or mineral spirits, and some bearing lube (yyj or yyf thin lube) for future bearing maintenance

Since I don't know much about yoyo maitenence (as you know with the water ) what would a lighter fluid be? By the way, anything I can do to make up for me putting it in water?

Just curious, but how old are you? Just ask your parents about mineral spirits or lighter fluid. And ask them for wd-40 to soak the bearing in.

your bearing mosst likely is dead because of that, but you could try wd-40... and just ask your parents to get you some lighter fluid, and what you do with it is soak your bearing in it to clean it, then you dry the bearing and put lube in it... go to the maintenance section of the boards and look for bearing topics on cleaning

I'm 12, and I'm probably gonna get some wd-40 and lighter fluid! Hope I don't have to buy a new bearing though, it's hard for me to come up with 10 dollars, and then convince my parents that it's worth it for a new bearing!!

Chances are, there will be at least some WD-40 around your house.

Some people are saying to soak it in the WD-40, but isn't that a lubricant? Do you all mean soak it in the lighter fluid and then lube it with WD-4O or soak it in the WD-40? I'm trusting you guys on this as I don't have any other experience!

Soaking it in the wd40 will help eat through any rust. you wouldnt want to actually lube the bearing with it because its too viscous. thats why you clean all of it out with the lighter fluid

WD-40 actually is not a lubricant, it removes lube, but in a different way... i dont know how to describe it. id just go with the lighter fluid and no WD-40, then lube it once its dry with thin bearing lube (since you want unresponsive)

There should be some kind of spray lube in your house either wd-40 or liquid wrench or something like that. Soak the bearing in it and then clean it with lighter fluid. Finally put a tiny drop of sewing machine oil(3-in-1) and it should be better. That's what I do with my rc bearings and it should work for you too
