Kind Of New To Yo-Yo's
« on: September 19, 2011, 10:00:55 AM »

Hey guys, Sure your sick of hearing this kind of topic, But theres another one right here for you to have a read through.

My name is Matty (Second name Greggs hence the nickname) and I am a focused diaboloist who wants to try something new. I used to have a kids yoyo when I was about 7-8ish and could do simple tricks (Walk the dog Etc and I think the most advanced I got to was called something like Baby in a cradle or something like that) but I never got right into it.
Last night I realised I had £20 spare and decided to buy one (A Henrys Cobra).

I know enough from the juggling meetings where people bring yoyo's along that there are different types (Responsive / unresponsive) and I know what they mean. But from trying there YoYo's I seem to be able to throw and bind them quite well but thats pretty much all I can do. Would the Henrys Cobra I have bought be unresponsive and if not would I be able to make it unresponsive? If so how Smiley?

Thanks for taking the time to read another newbies post, But "Hopfully" I will still be around a long time from now and will get the chance to help others with this sort of query.
Thanks in advance,
Matty

you can make it unresponsive by cleaning the bearing (if its the new sort of Henrys)

Good luck though.. thats not the best to try and learn new school yoyoing on

As of cleaning the bearings, you can always ask the people at your diabolo meets or you can look it up online on how to clean your bearings.
I would explain it in here but I'm terrible at explaining.

I think I need to stop reading too much forum threads and start yoyoing for once.

Cleaning the bearing is done by leaving it in paint thinner for a couple of minutes (first deshield it), afterwards it is usually lubed with either thin or thcik yoyo lube, depending on if you want responsive or unresponsive play.

I don't know much about Henry's yoyo's, only hear say and that is that they are currently a bit out of date...

Anyway, good luck with throwing, starting out with responsive play isn't a bad thing, this gives you some time to pick up the pace. When you get a new yoyo, I would seek advice here first.
