TWISTED STRINGS
« on: September 12, 2011, 03:11:55 AM »

Let’s start this out by saying I’m a string wh*#e and I love to try different strings.  I happen to come across a FB post from Jen Jenn telling about how she sent out some strings to a few people.  I didn’t even know that she was making strings beyond those that were just for her.  So I axed(yeah I said axed) if I could give them a shot.  LOW AND BEHOLD she had sent me 4 strings, 2 bundled and 2 loose, don’t know if there was a difference, nor could I tell.  I did notice that on my 2nd string I tried it was a child size (about 6” shorter than the 1st string)  OOPS, booboos happen.  But as for the other 3 strings they were all fairly long and I had to cut 3 or 4 inches off of them once I got them strung up.

My 1st impression before I even put the string on was that they felt a bit stiff maybe like the string had some starch on them from the spool.  I wasn’t worried because I knew that would go way after a break in period.  The 1st string I put on my YYF JK because it was the closest to me at the time.  When I went to untwist the string I noticed that the initial twisting before the string is folded looked to be a bit loose and I was thinking to myself the string tension will be an issue with this 1st string.  I threw my JK around for about 10 minutes and did notice that the string tension was a problem but nothing major of course.  I then moved on to a few other throws I had with me in my case.  I tried the string with a YYF WHiP and didn’t feel much difference than the JK, moved onto my CLYW Marmot and noticed the whips and suicides were as if I was riding a bike with training wheels.  I then moved onto my everyday go to throw, a One Drop YFactor.  Gotta say I’m really loving this string.  The stiffness was still present after 45 minutes of straight playing it like I was playing the guitar solo from Freebird but still no worries.  When I took the string off the YFactor to move on to my last throw I noticed that the string was fraying at the bottom around the bearing NOT BAD but still something I needed to watch. I then moved onto my last throw, a One Drop CODE1.  Yep nothing new to report, just some bad a$$ string on a bad a$$ throw.  All my whips and suicides were as if an angel was guiding them for me.

I had mentioned to another thrower on FB that if you can’t do whips and suicides with this string, there’s a good chance that you couldn’t walk and chew gum at the same time either.  And like I told Jen Jenn, I played this string like a ugly red headed step child that owed me money.  I have never played a Kevlar string before but I couldn’t imagine that there is something more bullet proof out there than Twisted Strings.

If I have any thing that I wish that could change on the string it would be the string tension issue and the initial twisting (which I do believe affects string tension)

THE SHORT-N-SKINNY
Pros: tough, simi stiff but still had a bounce, VERY easy for suicide and whips, OH!! and these were freebies—side note—I hope that once she goes into production to make money that she stays price conscience for us cheap bastards out there.

Cons: string tension, the minor fraying around the bearing area(but it stayed together) kinda rough feeling (but I got past it, and I’m sure you can aswell)

This was my first review for anything on yoyos so I hope I let you all know how I felt about the strings and I REALLY hope you all try out at the very least one pack.

Thanks for reading

 Afro
Well thank you for the long winded review. Did you breath in between on that one or did you just beat the red headed step child you were speaking of? LMAO Smiley I really do appreciate your efforts. Without people like you I couldn't make a great string. I dont want to make just a "good" string, it has to be great or forget it. Yeah funny thing happened, I tried one of my earlier strings and I was like, ummm did it shrink or did I grow? HAHA, yeah I guess I made a batch just a taaaaaaaad bit short. Thank god they were freebies, LOL! Since I have sent out samples, my strings have come along way. They are so much better now. I have been able to tweak my formulas quite a bit with input from you guys so I cannot tell you enough how valuable that information is to me. So thank you again for your efforts!!

forgot to mention this stuff binds incredibly well.  Even after playing the 1st string for hours it binds like a chameleon tongue to a bug. NEVER one slip or missed bind so far.  and that's on every throw I tried this on with varying worn responses.

I do not do forums much but I have to speak up about these stringz. I have tried several of the types offered and have not yet found one i did not like. What they all have in common is the ability to last. Since getting a few different types I have not actually had to change a string in weeks. My personal favorite are the Kevlars. Strong, fast, and hold loops like mad! if you want a string that can make your yoyo play better, yes..better, then give them a shot. Start with a 10 pack or so and you will see what I mean. Customer service is top notch and if you want a custom color to fit your style? No problem! Give em a shot! do it! NOW!
