A Pretty Big String Review/Comparison. Chaos, Hamstring, and more!!
« on: August 15, 2011, 03:41:28 PM »

I live in Colorado, I couldnt tell you how strings play in humidity, but I could tell you how they play when it's windy , snowy, or fricking hot outside.
HAMSTRING: Type 12 100% Poly
PROS:
-Soft! This string is soft so its not so hard on hands.
-This stuff slacks amazing! By far the best slacking string i've tried.
-Breaks in like a Highlight.
-Holds tension nicely

CONS:
-Doesn't whip as well as Chaos or Toxic Strring
-Doesn't last as long as Chaos or Toxic String

Toxic String:100% Poly
PROS:
-Whips amazingly! It whips just as fast as I need it to.
-Holds tension LIKE A BOSS!
-Slacks about the same as a Highlight
-Lasts forever! I feel like they need to do something like the Stride gum commercials and cut peoples string so they have to buy more.  Rollin on da floor!

CONS:
-Whips too fast sometimes, gets me in to knots.

Chaos String: 422 blend
PROS:
-Whips good and slacks good.
-Lasts a lifetime
-Holds its tension

CONS:
-Feels to plasticy.
-Rough on hands

HIGHLIGHTS: 100% Poly
PROS:
-Its cheap
-It preforms fine
-Colors!

CONS:
-Doesn't last long.
-Does not hold tension well

#82 strings Kevlar: Blue/Glow
PROS:
-Whips and slacks are great
-lasts forever

CONS:
-Feels plasticy

Kitty String - Poly
PROS:
Feels good
Cheap
Whips and slacks better than highlights which are the same price

Cons:
Smells weird. My dad says its poison dyes on the string.

Toxic Strings Dragon Strings-
They play about exactly like toxic, but are thinner. Personally, I love this. The issue of strings coming of fingers was slightly fixed, after about two min. of a break-in period, these WILL stay on your finger. THESE LAST LITERALY FOREVER! I have been playing with the same one on my new Xcon Pro for literaly a week.If you like chaos 422 string, try these out. They play better and to my understanding, Chaos String is dead.

Graou String-
I don't like the feel of these strings. They basically play like a highlight, but last a bit longer. I would rather buy a crap-load of highlights (which I have about 300 of at the moment) then buy this string. These strings just don't fit my preferences, but if you like long lasting highlight-like string then you would LOVE THESE.

Scysch string- these were a little short when I got them, but one was long enough. These strings rock! They are thick
Ike hamstring but play like toxic. They last a little longer then hamstring and are better colored in my opinion.

My fav by far is Toxic dragon String.

I am anxious to try out BG-1's, gstring and Twisted stringz

So what is longer a lifetime or forever? (in terms of lasting)

Thanks for the review I was wondering about strings.

Nice! I need to get some Toxic string to try out. My current favorite is Hamstring, but this stuff sounds like something I would also use. I absolutely cannot stand the plastic feel of strings with nylon, but the kevlar in #82 isn't too bad. I really like everything about #82 except that there is no give, so it thunks hard at the end of the string which makes my joints flare up faster than a raging hemorrhoid.

Mondo is my least favorite 100% poly string. I'm not even sure it is type 6 because it feels so thin. I use it in my Loop 900s, and thats just because I don't have anything else for looping right now. I much prefer Highlights over Mondo, which I find to be too thin. IMO it doesn't hold loops or tension, or whip as well as highlights.

For me It holds tension better, plus I live in a pretty humid place, I dislike highlights because they don't play well in humid conditions.

Blue kevlar.
I have switched to a black that is as soft as poly.

Mondo is actually considered to be "type 10" which is a 2x5 thread configuration that is thinner than type 6 (counterintuitive, I know). I have to say I used to really dig them but after picking up a second batch after becoming much more experienced, I was disappointed with how poorly they held tension. I've been on Highlights for a while now but after I get home and tear into my nice big batch of Kitty String that just arrived today, I think my favorite string may be about to change.

But to go back and address the op's review, the Hamstring I used didn't seem to hold tension very well -- probably a bit better than Mondos, but I still found myself desperately needing to adjust tension after a few throws. And with how thick Hamstring is those tension twists are no joke. Somehow Highlights have held tension the best for me so far (aside from Kitty String) out of anything I've ever tried, which is why I've stuck with them for so long.

I've actually been kind of intrigued to hear some people's thoughts on Toxic string before I decide to buy some, so thank you for posting this. What I'd also like to know is more on feel (soft/rough) and material (if known).

All I want are some highlights that last longer... anything fit the bill?

Most other strings are better than highlights under humid and/or sweaty hand conditions but I don't like how they either whip much differently than highlights or lack the bounce of highlights.

Hey man. Toxic strings are 100% poly. I recently got some, and the best way I can describe it is thicker than Chaos 422. I'm sure this will wear away with play though. It does well for whips and slacks, but I think Chaos suicides better. I prefer Chaos, but Toxic strings is definitely worth a try.

Kitty String

Yeah this -- and it sounds like I have the same criteria when choosing a string as you do beezy. Been playing with it ever since I got home and can't put it down. The one Kitty String I got previously when I ordered my Sleipnir lasted me a few weeks before I just threw it away a couple days ago. Granted it was really tattered and ratty at that point, but it still held tension very nicely until the end. Super soft as well.

Thanks for that. I'll have to give them a try next time I feel adventurous.
