What causes a pulsing vibe/wobble
« on: August 10, 2011, 11:36:04 PM »

Ok so I've been wondering, what causes a vibe in a metal yoyo? The reason I am asking this is because my sleipnir has this awkward vibe where it increases and decreases as if its pulsing. I have no idea how this happened, I jus unscrewed the yoyo to take out a knot, screwed it back on and boom, had a weird pulsing vibe. Something to be mentioned is that when I was screwing it back, I felt a bit of resistance and I still do when I unscrew/screw the yoyo back together. Before it had the pulsing vibe, it did vibe but just barely, but now it vibes to the point where it almost affects play significantly. I would like to know what causes this and if it could be fixed. Thank you

not sure if u've fixed this already, i dont have a yyr,  but when i get vibe its usually because my axle is a little loose, your axle must've come loose when u unscrewed it the first time. my h5 was vibing after a   regular clean, so  i unscrewed it, screwed in the axle properly ( allen facing up) and it was smooth as butter after...

I guess the first step would be to ask when your Sleipnir was made. Recent run YYR axles are symmetrical, so the allen key hole would be irrelevant. When you screwed it back together, it may have ended up a little loose, so you may be able to solve the problem by trying to give it another attempt at screwing the halves tighter. Don't overtighten it -- if you don't feel it give at all, don't continue to tighten it.

"floaty" is undefined and it should be avoided

It's not because the axle, I had this problem before when designing a yoyo (Beast from DTI). The vibe is pulsing and worse, like a discoball, I'm sorry I can't provide the video, since Mike (the DTI owner) seemed to have deleted it.

It happened when I (I think it's my fault) decided to re-design the Bassboost to improve stability, so I decided to send the yoyo weight to the outer side of the rim... So it supposed to give more rim weight... It was a bad idea  Undecided
But finally we can fix the problem by reducing some of the rim weight and transferred it closer to the gap, the Beast spins smoothly...
What I think to be the cause is when you send the weight to very outer rim (I mean toward the side) there is a "spinning sideways" effect... The yoyo tends to spin to the side rather than going in correct direction.
By looking at Sleipnir's design (I haven't throw any) I could see slight difference between yoyo direction and throwing direction could cause this, I assume regens are vibey with them (could someone test this for me?)...

Try touching your nail when the yoyo spins, it could fix the vibe. Also you can use the string to touch the inner wall a bit.

This also the reason why Sleipnir (and other YYR) have similar shapes , which are very stable and solid. They push the stability very close into the vibe limit...

Another reason is your axle bent or too loose.
