Hello, forum I just rounded my first week of yoyo'ing, and i like it alot. I started out with a fast 201 which i picked up from a local store. And i completed the Basic tricks of expertvillage/Andre Boulay's tutorials, So i moved on to the Intermediate section. But after having trouble doing string tricks, I decided upgrading to Dark Magic 2.
I recieved my Dark Magic 2 yesterday and im very happy with it. But efter playing with it for a while, it began making an annoying metallic like schreeching noise, is this normal, and will it stop?
Some advice would be very appreciated
Thanks in advance for your response.

is there anything preventing the bearing from spinning?? like hair or something. if not clean the bearing(google it) and buy some thin lube and put 1 drop of it on the side of the bearing and it should be quiet

can i buy anything alike thin lube? since i live and denmark, one bottle of thin lube would cost me around 7-8 pounds. with shipping and i would have to wait like 4-5 days or so for it to arrive
EDIT: Btw, i use the SPEED bearing, aka unresponsive bearing

you could try to clean the bearing with alcohol or mineral spirits (take the shields off first) and blow it dry with compressed air. Then try to play it dry, it might be a bit noisy, and some people advise against dry bearings, but sometimes I had good luck with dry bearings. It will definitely shorten the lifespan of the bearing though.
If you don't want to order yoyo specific thin lube, you can try other oils. To stay unresponsive, you'd need a very thin oil (low viscosity). Some people say sewing machine oil, or gun oil works well enough. I had good luck with an oil I got when I bough a hair cutter thingy. Yoyo specific oil is nothing else than very thin silicon oil. If you know somebody who is into RC cars, he will have low viscosity silicon oil.
Good luck, and don't be afraid to mess with your bearing.
cheers Daf

the bearing breaks already, don't worry... screeching noise will always come up. personally I have never buy a thin lube for my bearings, if I hate the noise I use cooking oil (never use this if you're not as crazy as me) and put 1/4 drop on it. Since i don't know if the screeching sound comes from dirt or natural sound, I do recommend cleaning the bearing (the sound might get worse, but it's normal)

Hey there! I just posted in your other thread, but I'm going to post here as well. Just clean your bearing. http://yoyowiki.org/wiki/Cleaning_a_Bearing^^^ That is a great tutorial that will teach you how to clean your bearing! Follow it exactly and everything will be great! I highly recommend buying some thin lubricant. Paying 7-8 pounds for it seems like a lot, but it will be worth it once you realize how much it helps your bearings. You can run your bearings dry, but they will only last a few months. If you use thin lubricant on them every month or so, your bearings will last for years. In the end, you'll be buying a new bearing (roughly 7 pounds) every 3 months or so if you don't lube them, or you'll buy lubricant one time and never need a new bearing. The lubricant will pay for itself and will last FOREVER. I use One Drop's V4M lubricant on all of my bearings. So far, I've probably lubed 20 bearings 20 times each and I'm not even halfway through one bottle of lube. Trust me, it will last a long, long time. Good luck!

honestly, i dont think that you need to clean the bearing unless spin times are greatly reduced from when the bearing didnt make any sound. All dry bearings are loud, and thats how I play all of my bearings. Never once have I lubed a bearing, and never once has a bearing broken in 4 years

You can run your bearings dry, but they will only last a few months. lots of people run their bearing dry and rarely seem to have any such issues as a result. The screeching sound is probably the sound of a dry (unlubed) bearing. Cleaning your bearing will be unlikely to help and often makes the sound louder as it removes all the lube. So your options are to put up with the sound or lube your bearings. Make sure to get the thin lube (OD V4M, YYJ thin lube or YYF long spin oil). Some people also use other oils not specifically designed for yoyos. You can probably search these baords to find some of the things people have tried. When you add the lube try to add as little as possible or you will make the yoyo responsive. Over time the lube will break down and the bearing will start screeching again which means it's time to re-lube.
