The Golden State has a lot of things going for it, not the least of which is an awesome state cheese campaign. Alas, what to do when you’ve had your fill of cheese, gone to Disneyland, eaten your way through San Francisco, and are just twiddling your thumbs waiting for September 8 to roll around?

Head to the 154th California State Fair, of course, where this weekend you can check out Takeshi, Paul Han, and Stupendous doing their thing alongside the 4H livestock and rodeo shows. While the performers will be roaming the fairgrounds all weekend, check the calendar for official performance times on Saturday and Sunday. As part of the Toytopia: World of Toys exhibit, Duncan is also sending in their 20′ inflatable yo-yo along with tons of special State Fair ProYo IIs (see below) as giveaways to the first 1,500 in line at 10am on Saturday.

Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) came down to the South Street Seaport on August 11 to get the scoop on one of the most extreme yo-yo events ever, if we do say so ourselves.

Check out this clip, currently featured on Yahoo’s “THE 9″, profiling the contest, interviewing Jovanni Crespo (NYC), Sebastian Brock (VA), Vaclav Kroutil (Czech Republic), and Eiji Okuyama (Japan), and featuring lots of shots of numerous yo-yo superstars on the Seaport stage.

…other features on THE 9 this week include an interview with Josh Hartnett and parodies of “Chocolate Rain”. Hmm.

The week before Worlds, Pat interviewed Brazilian yo-yo powerhouses Rodrigo “Sid” Pires (Brazil #4) and Danilo Packer (two-time Brazil National Champion and 1A placer in NYC’s 2007 International Yo-Yo Open) during their trip to NYC, covering Rage Against the Machine, the limitations of 10-day visas, São Paulo vs. New York, and crazy people (os loucos).
